Episode 14 - October

It's a new beginning for the podcast as we embark on a new series of weekly programs. In future shows you'll begin to hear the new podcast formats take shape, and we'd love your feedback on the program.

At any time, if we mention something that piques your interest, or raises a question then send us some feedback either through a comment in the blog or by calling our feedback line on +1 (202) 657-6205. The voicemail service is open 24 hours a day.

So here's our October podcast. This month we speak to Melody R. Green about her book on sharing wisdom. We can't tell you the name of the book because that would be giving away the answer to the competition.

We're giving away a copy of Melody's book to those people who write in and tell us the name of her book, along with their email address and full name. We'll draw a winner at random towards the end of next month and we'll announce it on the In Spirit podcast website.

We also catch up with Kerry who is going to be giving us some feedback on a reading she had with Ruth in an earlier podcast. And of course we have more listener readings on the show as well.

For full details on the show and the music we played during this episode check out the show notes.

So here it is, enjoy the October Episode of In Spirit with Ruth Phillips.

Until next week (when we start our first weekly shows!)
James

A single rose

Angela writes:

Last time I came and saw you, you told me that I would receive a single rose or see a single rose and to know that my mother would be with me at that time. I have to be honest to say that I thought it was a bit vague the 'seeing a single rose' bit as they could be anywhere and I've never received a single rose in my life. Anyway, in May this year I attended an awards dinner with the company that I sell craft products for and I won two awards - as I walked up on to the stage to receive my award... you guessed it, I was given a single rose with my award. Incredible. I would walk past florists and think "no, that's obviously not right, single roses are everywhere" - but this was definitely a very very strong sign. Anyway, I thought you might like to know this as I'm sure you sometimes wonder if certain things have
happened.

Thank you so very much for this wonderful feedback - mainly because I know how much you really wanted and needed to hear from your darling mother. I am so pleased that your confirmation came as it did, as she was so proud of you when you won your awards. She was definitely there in spirit with you at that time and would have been the proud mother watching over you - just as she would have been if she was still with us here.

A thank you for every sneeze

Well here we are at the 18th September and I am happily having a wonderful clearing in the form of a head cold - lots of sneezes and tissues gone thorugh - but this is all proof that I am letting go of any left over states that needed to be cleared before we move into the energy of the "1" vibration. I have been saying lots of "thank you's" to the Universe and the Divine every time I sneeze for this opportunity to clear.

As we move towards the end of September I am clearing out my pantry, sorting out my wardrobe, donating things I no longer use to charity, and finishing up all those craft and needlework UFO's ( Un Finished Objects).

I am determined to make a clear path ahead for October when the first wave of the 1 vibration begins to be felt. As a "1" day born ( ie 10th of the month ) this is a significant year ahead for me - a new goal and new focus to set my sights on. I am SO excited.

On another note - for those of you reading this who live in London - I shall be venturing up there in mid November and will be available for a limited number of private sessions whilst there. If you are interested in having a one- on- one session then please email me info@ruthiephillips.com ( please put "London Visit" inthe subject line) and I'll contact you re timings etc.

I do hope to be able to meet up with some of our loyal podcast listeners, old clients and friends.

Blessings,
Ruthie

When we lose someone we love

I was listening to the latest episode of Mysterious Universe (www.mysteriousuniverse.org) hosted by trailblazing Aussie podcaster- Benjamin Grundy). He mentioned on his latest show about the passing of his grandfather. He mentioned the comfort his knowledge of the metaphysical was bringing him and that he was certain that wasn't all there was to life.

As he spoke it brought back memories of when my Grandmother passed in 2003. Even though we were separated physically by nearly 1,000 kilometres, I remember the exact time she passed and exactly where I was. She visited me as I was driving to work and said the words "Nana loves you", words she would always say to me as a child. I could hear the words as clearly as if she was sitting in the car seat next to me and I could feel the intense warmth of her hug.

It was a very brief and intense moment, and I wasn't quite sure what it meant. To be honest I thought it was a message for a friend who I did a reading for the previous day. I had no idea she had passed over until nearly 8 hours later that night, when I got a call from my mum to let me know she had passed.

This precious visit from my Grandmother was a firm reassurance to me that we are more than just our physical body... and for me her funeral was more a celebration that she was now free from the physical restrictions of her body and was on her way home.

Our thoughts are with you and your family Benjamin...

Bringing your whole self to work

If you're like me, then sometimes it can be really hard some days to drag yourself to work. Workplaces can be awkward, political and socially challenging at the best of times. Recently I found a great article on Beliefnet that hit home for me. It talked about leaving behind the old ideas that work is something that you go and do.

The ten tips enclosed in this article encourage us all to see work as an extension of your spiritual self: it is your teacher, a creative outlet and is a place for you to be present in each moment.

As we discover that work can be an extension of our spiritual self we re-claim those eight (or more) hours to live to the full. Hours that were previously lost to 'work'. It was an inspiring article for me, and hopefully it will be for you too.

San Francisco to host their own "Earth Hour"

The organisers at Light's Out San Francisco believe that good things happen in the dark, and in the dark is exactly where they hope all SF residents will be between 8-9pm on Saturday October 20th this year.

A similar successful campaign in Sydney Australia on 31st March this year saw more than 2 million residents and businesses switch-off lights for one-hour between 6-7pm. One hour of lights out meant that 24.86 tons of carbon dioxide were not released into the air – the equivalent of taking 48,613 cars off the road for one hour.

Before the event, organisers are encouraging all SF residents to install a donated compact fluorescent light bulb, and turn-off all unnecessary lighting.

Lights Out San Francisco is a grassroots organization based in San Francisco. The groups' steering committee consists of Bay Area residents – environmentalists, technologists, writers, and educators – who are passionate about fighting global warming and finding ways to take action locally.

Organisers are calling for volunteers to assist with awareness and other activities.

If you are s SF local and interested in helping out then you can find more information at the Lights Out San Francisco website.

Founder of Body Shop Anita Roddick dies

Today we say farewell to Anita Roddick, the founder of the Body Shop cosmetics store, who died yesterday after suffering a major brain haemorrage.

A leader well before her time, she was a trailblazing green businesswoman and the business she setup were literally decades ahead of the eco-friendly fashion.

She was - and is - an inspiring business pioneer who continually thought about the environment ahead of profits, and became highly profitable in the process.

How to listen to podcasts in your car

Louise writes:

"I am purchasing an ipod in the next month or so, so it will be a lot easier for me to find the time to download and listen to the recordings whilst I am driving, so weekly would be fine.I am not sure if you mentioned this on your show, but you can purchase an attachment with your iPod so that you can tune your ipod into the radio of your car by selecting a designated channel for your ipod. You can then listen to your iPod whilst you are driving (to work etc) just like another radio station. A lot of people do not know this and I know that it would allow people to listen to your shows a lot more often. They can set a time for themselves, say driving to work every Tuesday morning. Just some food for thought."

Thanks for the note Louise - sometimes I take technology for granted and make the wrong assumption that everyone is as familiar with the technology as me...

I listen to podcasts on my way to work in the car too. I download several different podcasts, so I can listen to a variety of topics every day of the week... it certainly makes my daily commute more interesting.

Here are some options specifically from the Apple iPod accessory range that allow people to tune-in their radio to the ipod. Essentially these little devices broadcast your signal to a specific channel on your FM radio.

Here's one that I particularly like because it suits most - if not all - of the ipods on the market today. The one thing to watch when buying an FM transmitter is "does it suit my particular ipod", as the ipod connectors do vary from model to model, depending on the age of your particular unit.

This unit is called the Griffin iTrip Auto and it is available from the Buy Mac Australian online store. (http://www.buymac.com.au/). This unit is a transmitter for all seasons incorporating the ipod nano and even the latest generation ipod videos (the status of connection with the brand new itouch ipod is unknown... read down for more information on this new device). It also recharges your unit through the cigarette adapter in your car while you listen. The unit retails for about AU$129 RRP but you can get it only for just AU$89 here.

Here's a list of some of the other devices available that do pretty much the same thing. If you buy one of these units, remember to check that it is compatible with your particular ipod.

HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT THE NEW IPOD TOUCH?

This is a brand new unit, just released a couple of days ago. This new unit has the same features as the much acclaimed iPhone just without the phone component. To select music you simply touch the screen - no complicated buttons. The iPod touch also allows you to surf the web wirelessly, and download music and podcasts (including the In Spirit Podcast) from a new wireless iTunes store.

The units currently available are considered top of the line and are around the AU$415-AU$435 mark, and their storage capacity is a bit limited (the largest iTouch iPod is currently only 16GB, while the latest ipod video unit has 10 times this capacity). If you want the latest and greatest though, the new iTouch iPod is probably the way to go for you.

With this release Apple also announced that the iPod Nano has gone video as well, so the range is changing and it's worth checking out the latest products before you buy...

Thanks for the note Louise - and I hope some of this ipod techno info is of some use!

Now, where do you listen to the In Spirit Podcast? Leave your comment and let us know!

Cheers,
James (a.k.a. the technoboffin)

The Ninth month of the global 9 year

Well it is now the ninth month of our global 9 year (2007). The great completion. A wonderful time to finally get all those chores done that you have put off. Also a good time to re-evaluate your life on every level.

As you read this, humanity is being flooded with very powerful Light from the Celestial realms. New 5th dimensional particles and waves are bathing our planet between the Full Moon Eclipse of last month (28th August) and the New Moon Eclipse to come on September 11, 2007.

In addition to these vibrational influxes of energy we are also experiencing rare numerological influences which bring the powerful blessings of the 999. These blessings have already begun to flood the planet on 9/9/2007 and will do so throughout this month, and in particular on the 18th September and the 27th of September.

So what does all this mean to us in real terms? Well these amazing energies are prodding us all out of our comfort zones, pushing us to face situations we had previously avoided or deferred. We are being asked to look within at our core beliefs and to see whether they are really our beliefs or ones we have inherited from others along our life path.

This is a time that we are being shown a myriad of new possibilities for our lives. For many, this may mean breaking away from old relationships, friendships, marriages or business partnerships that no longer support our truth. For others it is perhaps a time to look at their work and whether they are doing what actually makes their heart sing. And for the Lightworkers among us, many of whom are reading these words; it is a clarion call for higher service to the Light. It may mean changing the way we work with others in our capacity as healers, seers or teachers. This could involve the construction of new pathways forward and new therapies to help our fellow beings find the blockages that prevent them from experiencing their own true joy.

With all these new energies we have instigated a fresh approach to our podcast and the appearance of our website. For those of you who have not as yet listened to one of our podcast episodes please take a few minutes to investigate via the podcast button on this page. Along with our monthly podcasts, we are now recording A Moment In Spirit which is a weekly vignette with ideas and interviews and follow up from our monthly shows. We welcome, and indeed encourage, listener feedback, questions and on-air readings so I would love to hear from you via the Blog, Voicemail or email.

So if you have some questions regarding what you have been experiencing of these new energies or would like to share some of your stories with our listeners, then please leave us a message, our voicemail lines are always open.

I rejoice in this moment in time, as it is such a gift to be here now and to be able to participate in these wondrous events.
I send you Blessings, Ruth

We've joined Libsyn!

I'm pleased to announce that we've just completed a migration of the In Spirit with Ruth Phillips podcast to Liberated Syndication (or libsyn for short). Libsyn are pioneers in effective podcast hosting solutions and their platform makes it easy for us to keep bringing you each new episode effortlessly.

We've changed our podcast feed to 'point' listeners to the files stored on libsyn podcast servers.

I guess the big question is why did we change?

Over the last twelve months our audience for the In Spirit Podcast has grown significantly. Up until recently we've hosted our podcast files in the same location as the podcast website. This worked well for a while until our audience grew and our web server started to buckle under the strain. As we start to plan for weekly shows we realised that our servers simply wouldn't cope with the load, and so we set about planning for a new hosting solution that would.

Will there be any interruption? As a listener we don't expect that you will notice any interruption to the service. You will see new play buttons on the blog and the podcast website. Look for the new grey-coloured Play Channel Now button.

If you hit a problem during this migration period, please let us know by leaving us a comment. Please keep giving us feedback about your experiences with the podcast after the migration.

Thanks again for tuning-in and we hope you'll like the changes. Please write to us with your feedback, concerns and suggestions because we love to hear them!

James
